Trimming cannot straighten a trunk, but it can take weight off the leaning side so the tree is under less strain. Soil cracking at the base, or a lean that grows each year, points toward cabling or a takedown instead.

Ontario lets you cut overhanging limbs back to your side of the line, provided the cuts leave the tree healthy. Big cuts on a protected tree may still need a city permit, so we check before we start and suggest talking with your neighbour first.
